Lead ingots are divided into large ingots and small ingots, mainly used in the manufacturing of storage batteries, coatings, bullets, welding materials, lead salts for chemicals, cable sheaths, bearing materials, caulking materials, Babbitt metal, and protective materials for X-rays.
Lead ingots are rectangular in shape with protruding lugs at both ends, presenting a bluish-white metallic appearance and a relatively soft texture.
- Surfaces of lead ingots shall be free from slag, granular oxides, inclusions, and external contamination.
- Lead ingots shall be free from cold shuts, and flash and burrs shall not exceed 10mm in size (trimming is allowed).
The arbitration analysis method for the chemical composition of lead ingots shall be conducted in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 4103 Methods for Chemical Analysis of Lead and Lead Alloys.
- Each lead ingot shall be cast or stamped with the trademark and batch number.
- Grade marks shall be marked on lead ingots using non-fading paint, and the color and position of the marks shall comply with relevant regulations.
- Each bundle of lead ingots shall be affixed with a conspicuous and non-fading label, indicating the manufacturer’s name, product name, grade, batch number, and net weight.
Lead ingots are classified into 5 grades based on chemical composition, and the most commonly used refined lead in the market is Pb99.
- Net weight of small ingots: 48kg ± 3kg, 42kg ± 2kg, 40kg ± 2kg, 24kg ± 1kg;
- Net weight of large ingots: 950kg ± 50kg, 500kg ± 25kg.
Small ingots shall be bundled and packaged with non-rusting strapping. Large ingots shall be supplied as bare ingots.
- Lead ingots shall be transported using vehicles free from corrosive substances, and protected from rain.
- Lead ingots shall be stored in a well-ventilated, dry warehouse free from corrosive substances.
- During transportation and storage, the formation of white, grayish-white, or yellowish-white films on the surface of lead ingots is a result of the natural oxidation property of lead, and shall not be regarded as a basis for rejection.
